Small Breed Dog Training

Exactly why doggy lovers have this unacceptable view that small dogs are more difficult to educate when compared to medium sized or large breed puppies, I will by no means be able to comprehend. Small dog training should not pose a problem.

Small dog training, is not all different from training a pup of any other size. Whilst training any dog will have its peculiarities, related to its breed, practically all other facets continue being identical, and the strategy employed to train the canine animal should stay the same, regardless its size.

Having said that, I will make an exception and agree that small dog training can offer difficulties in two arenas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy Crate Training. However, this is not because the size of the dog breed is small, but in all case studies, because of the owner.

If a smaller breed pup is aggressive and poses a training problem, or if a smaller breed puppy cannot be toilet trained or poses challenges in being bathroom trained, it is the owner who has unknowingly contributed to this situation. Let us examine how and why.

Aggression.

Small dogs are preferred because they are pretty, they are like playthings. Owners get pleasure from having their pet sit on their laps. This kind of indulgence is where the trouble starts. The basic aggressive trait of the animal, is to take ownership over its domain, its food, even its trainer; all pups want to be the alpha dog.

It is the hostile streak in the puppy that provokes it to jump on to the lap of its master, particularly when there are a good number of people seated in the room.

This is a obvious act of hostility. Instead of chastising and checking the dog, every owner bar no one, would cuddle the pooch, notwithstanding that it jumped on to their lap uninvited, fostering the aggressive streak in the puppy. In this way the owner has seconded the dog’s inherent need to be the alpha dog.

Growling and getting upset at a a bigger size dog is another clear act of aggression. To the owner, and even the onlookers, this is viewed as cute, just because one dog is small while the other is big. Most owners cuddle the pooch instead of admonishing it, when it demonstrates this aggression to a larger dog.

The above mentioned are but examples as to why small pups are aggressive, and positively not because small dog training is very difficult.

Toilet Training

Owners are inclined to carry their small pups around no matter where they go, even at home and that renders it impossible to bathroom train them

It is as a reflex action that the owners of miniature breed dogs to cart the animal to the area where the puppy should eliminate itself and then tote it back into the house.

It is this practice of carrying the puppy to the place where is should do its business that is the start of all roadblocks. In addition, ever since the pup is by and large carried around so often it has no way of it indicating to or notifying the owner that it has to go the toilet.

Under no circumstances can anyone forget that small dog training begins with treating the dog as any other sized dog. They have to be transported to their bathroom area on a leash. If owners discontinue carrying their tiny breed dogs they would have no obstacles in training them.

Dog crate training, is the most interesting part of pup training, and so it must be even in the scenario of Small Dog Training.
